You do not have to be Vietnamese to join VSA! While VSA is a Vietnamese cultural focus and interest student organization, it is not exclusive to only ethnic Vietnamese members. We will welcome anyone who takes interest and curiosity in our culture and is open to meeting new people! We have had many non-Vietnamese members in VSA such as Chinese, Korean, Indian, Hispanic and American students, with some having even served as officers and family leaders.
Membership is a one-time fee of $25 for the entire year! You can send it to us either through Venmo (@utdvsa) or Zelle.
Families are the smaller sub-groups within VSA that we sort every member into based on your interests detailed in the membership form. We try to put you with the people we feel you will vibe best with, and yes, we choose everyone individually! A family consists of at least one or multiple family leaders, and are the ones who are responsible for fostering community within VSA at its most direct level.
We have all sorts of events and hangouts that varies throughout every year, but here are the main ones we'd like to tell you about!
Internal events: Any event within UTD. This can be a sports competition, cultural festival, etc. that takes place on campus or within UTD-VSA. Sometimes, we even collaborate with other student organizations such as FSA, CSA, ASO, and many others!
External events: Any event not bound to just UTD. These are big spectacles in which a VSA at a given school will host the event, inviting every other VSA in the region to attend. Expect a huge show, a big game, and loads of fun afterwards!
Towards the end of each year, we open up application forms for recruiting incoming officers and family leaders for the next year. Keep an eye out for them, we typically release multiple rounds of applications but there's only a limited amount of chances!
